The Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union (KKFU) the only Fairtrade certified cooperative in Ghana's cocoa sector, as part of its social responsibility, has lined up a lot of interventions geared towards motivating and raising the moral of members for increase productivity.

Prominent among the social interventions being enjoyed by KKFU members include Mobile Clinic concept, where medical doctors are sent to catchment areas to examine their health and treat their ailments.

In April this year, two towns in the Nsokote District in the Adansi North District of Ashanti, Tebeso and Aboabo NOS. 1 and 2 became the beneficiaries of this concept when five doctors from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) were sent there to treat the farmers their diseases and ailments.

The team of Doctors led by Dr. Nathaniel Adu Boakye, comprised Seth Mark-Kafui, Elizabeth Adzadogo, Dr. Osman Abdulai and Jennifer Anderson.

They treated diseases and ailments like numbness, malaria, waist and bodily pains, symptoms of hypertension, rheumatism and many others.

Long before the arrival of the medical team, majority of the community had queued up anxiously waiting to be attended to. Some started queuing as early as 5am; almost the whole township besieged the Hospital premises when the team arrived at exactly 9.05am.

The patients, in addition to free consultancy were given free medications provided by Kuapa Kokoo Company. Persons whose diagnosis according to the doctors needed further assessment were referred to KATH for further treatment.

Opanin Kwabena Appiah, told the team that his son developed sore feet in both legs. He said the boy contacted the strange disease four year ago and he has since sent him to a number of hospitals, but has seen no improvement in the boy’s condition. The doctors proposed to have the boy further examined at KATH.

The management of Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union said the exercise will be extended to other catchment areas in due course.
